In 1949, the Mount Pleasant & Businessman's Association, Inc., reformed their organization and named it the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce, with the purpose of advancing the commercial, industrial, civic and general interests of the communities in the Greater Mount Pleasant Area, including but not limited to: Mount Pleasant Township, East Huntington Township, Donegal and Cook Township.

In 1997, the Mount Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors re-evaluated the focus of the Chamber and concluded the most advantageous approach for the future would be to expand their point of view from a local service to a much larger, more affluent regional service area. Therefore, on December 1, 1997, the Chamber changed its name to the Laurel Highlands Chamber of Commerce with the purpose of advancing the commercial, industrial, civic and general interests of the communities in Southern Westmoreland County, Northern Fayette County, the Western Somerset Counties and other surrounding areas.
